Muse #5: Adventureland Review

Thank you for joining me in discussing Jungle Cruise and Pirates of the Caribbean! Before we move on to Frontierland, I’d like to pause and have a little break from philosophizing. After all, there’s so much I love in Adventureland that I couldn’t quite stretch into a full blog post. Keep reading for some fun facts, quotes, and videos about Adventureland!

Fun Facts and History:

  • The feathers of the protagonists in the Enchanted Tiki Room reflect their nationalities!
  • Adventureland features Magic Kingdom’s Club 33 location, which is a secret lounge for top-paying Disney fans!
  • Magic Kingdom’s version of Pirates of the Caribbean is themed after my homeland, Puerto Rico! That’s only one of the reasons it’s so special to me, though. The beginning of the queue is quite spacious for dancing along to classic Pirates of the Caribbean music, and the tilework and fountain are beautiful and soothing, respectively.
  • You can complete pirate missions to earn a freebie! Just visit A Pirate’s Adventure ~ Treasure of the Seven Seas to learn more.
  • Adventureland is also the home of Orange Bird, a character Disney created to be the Florida Citrus Commission’s mascot. Aside from being utterly adorable, Disney used Orange Bird in animated videos teaching kids about nutrition! Orange Bird still isn’t a very well-known character, but he is featured prominently in so much park merchandise and in little architectural details around Walt Disney World resort. Look how cute he is!

Favorite Attraction Quotes:

“Of course, Schweitzer Falls is named after world-famous Dr. Albert Falls. If you are not familiar with the doctor, don’t worry about it—we are going over the falls later.”

Jungle Cruise

“Someone told me that when a hippo wiggles his ears, it’s a sign of affection. I have only seen them do it before they charge a boat. I keep telling them I only carry cash, but I don’t think they get it.”

Jungle Cruise

“The statue out front shows the ruler of the temple, Shir Lee. So this must be Shir Lee’s temple.”

Jungle Cruise

“As we approach, please notice that there’s a dock on the left, and a dock on the right. But don’t let it confuse you. It’s a paradox. Also on the dock is a pair of dorks; they will help you out of the boat.”

Jungle Cruise

“There’s old Trader Sam, head salesman of the area. Business has been shrinking lately, so this week only, Sam’s offering a two-for-one special: two of his, for one of yours!”

Jungle Cruise

“Ayyy! My siestas are getting shorter and shorter. Hey, Michael, mi amigo—pay attention, it’s showtime.”

Enchanted Tiki Room

“Oh, quit your cluckin’. The gentlemen want the rum! Dontcha, boys!”

Adventureland Music:

  • Want to capture the Adventureland ambiance? This video features the background music loop for Adventureland, and while Tomorrowland will always be my favorite music loop at Magic Kingdom, the Adventureland loop orchestration successfully captures its whimsical, vivacious atmosphere.
  • The Pirate Overture is one of my favorite Disney Park songs! George Bruns is definitely one of the great Disney composers.
  • The Enchanted Tiki Room theme song is one of the Sherman Brothers’ many classics.

I hope you enjoyed this little excursion into Adventureland! The next stop is Frontierland, and the next post will come with an (inevitable) side of controversy. Thanks again for joining me!

~Joy and sunshine,
Sarah Merly
